Best Air Fryer 2026: What the Published Specs and the Recall Record Actually Show

We have tested nothing and will not pretend otherwise. This compares what four air fryer makers publish, what their warranties say, and what the CPSC recall database returns for each one.

We have not tested these air fryers. Nobody on this site has cooked a basket of fries in any of them, and we are not going to describe a crunch we did not hear. What this compares instead is written down and checkable: what each maker publishes about capacity, power, size, food-contact materials and warranty, and what the federal recall database returns for that brand and model.

Here is how we chose, in one sentence: we took air fryers that are widely sold in the US and whose maker publishes a full specification on its own site, and searched every one against the complete CPSC recall dataset. That excludes anything we could not verify from a page we opened, so it is a shorter list than a review site would give you.

A breakout buying query landing on a category with a long overheating record

Google Trends marked best air fryer 2026 as a Breakout US query in the 12 months to September 2026, and our search of the full CPSC recall database on September 25, 2026 returned six air fryer recalls covering about 3.16 million US units, five of them for overheating.

What the CPSC database returns for air fryers

We downloaded the complete CPSC recall dataset on September 25, 2026 — 10,027 records covering June 1973 through September 24, 2026 — and searched it rather than relying on a summary. Six records are air fryer recalls: Insignia in April 2022 and again in March 2024, Magic Chef in October 2022, Cosori in February 2023, Secura in September 2023 and PowerXL in December 2023, about 3.16 million US units in total by our arithmetic.

The failure mode repeats. Five of the six are overheating: both Insignia notices cover units that can overheat, the 2024 one adding melting handles and shattering door glass; Magic Chef’s cites overheating; Cosori and Secura both name a wire connection that can overheat. Only PowerXL is something else, a plastic connector between two baskets. The Cosori recall alone covered about two million US units against 205 reports of fryers catching fire, burning, melting or smoking, including 10 minor burns.

Two adjacent records matter for the same shopper: SharkNinja’s May 2025 recall of about 1,846,400 Foodi OP300 pressure cookers, with 106 reported burn injuries, and Sunbeam’s September 2025 recall of about 1,290,000 Oster French Door countertop ovens, a range CPSC describes as differing in cooking options including air fry.

This category’s recalls cluster on heat and enclosure failures, not on cooking performance.

The four models we could verify end to end

Each is currently sold with a full specification on the maker’s own site, read September 25, 2026. We searched the CPSC dataset for every brand and model string below and none appears. That is a genuine finding and a limited one: absence from a recall database is not a safety rating, and three of these four brands have recalled a different kitchen product.

The brand history is worth stating exactly, because it gets blurred. Cosori’s 2023 recall, filed by Atekcity, covered 21 model numbers in the CP137, CP158, CS158, CO137, CO158, CP258 and CAF-P581 families — not the TurboBlaze line. SharkNinja’s 2025 recall covered Foodi OP300 pressure cookers, not the Crispi. The third is older: Double Insight, then the firm behind Instant Pot, recalled about 104,000 Gem 65 multicookers in March 2018 for overheating. Dash returns nothing.

The published differences worth weighing are capacity, rated power, maximum temperature, what the food touches and warranty length. On the last, Cosori publishes two years against one from the other three.

Non-toxic: what the coating claims mean and what the law covers

Non toxic is the second-most-typed qualifier after the year itself, and it is not a regulated term. What is checkable is the surface. SharkNinja states the Crispi Pro’s cooking surfaces are PFAS- and PTFE-free. Cosori describes the TurboBlaze basket as a PFAS-free ceramic-coated nonstick basket. Instant Brands says nonstick without naming the material. Dash goes the other way, stating its product contains PTFE for its non-stick properties.

We have mapped the state PFAS rules elsewhere on this site — for pots and pans, for makeup, for rain jackets and for baby gear — and will not restate them here. The question specific to air fryers is whether they are in scope at all, and the published definitions do not settle it. Minnesota’s prohibition took effect January 1, 2025 across 11 categories including cookware, which the state agency describes as any product used to prepare, dispense, or store food, foodstuffs, or beverages, while exempting products whose intentionally added PFAS sits only in electronic or internal components. Neither air fryers nor small kitchen appliances are named in it.

So a PFAS-free line on an air fryer box is the maker’s own statement. The only third-party mark any of these four publishes is electrical — Instant Brands prints ETL Certified beside the 1700 watt rating — and that says nothing about coatings. Not a reason to disbelieve the claim; a reason to prefer makers that name the material behind it.

Prefer a maker that names the surface — glass, ceramic coating or PTFE — over one that only says non-toxic.

What the qualifiers after the query are really asking

The autocomplete under best air fryer 2026 runs 6qt, for home use, with window, glass, stainless steel and small. Those are size and material questions that map onto published specs cleanly. Six quarts is where a basket and a square foot of counter meet: the Cosori TurboBlaze is 11.8 by 11.8 by 11.9 inches without its handle, the Instant Vortex Plus 14.92 by 12.36 by 12.83 inches, the Ninja Crispi Pro 11.8 by 12.2 by 11 inches.

The window and glass qualifiers are the non-toxic instinct from another direction: people want to see the food and know what it sits on. The Crispi Pro answers both by cooking in glass, with a modular base its maker says takes 2.5-, 4- and 6-quart glassware, while the Cosori answers the material question with a ceramic coating instead. For the wider cost picture, the BLS index for other appliances rose 1.3% in the 12 months to August 2026 while major appliances fell 1.9%; we traced the tariff round through the kitchen aisle in our kitchenware price piece.

What we cannot tell you

We cannot tell you which of these cooks better, because we have not cooked in them and no source we could open has published a controlled comparison of these four. Fan speed figures, airflow claims and crisping language are marketing copy until somebody measures them, and we will not launder them into a recommendation by rewording them.

We also cannot tell you that a model absent from the recall database is safe. Several of the six landed years after the product went on sale — the Cosori units sold from June 2018 to December 2022 and were recalled in February 2023. What the database gives a shopper is free and specific: search the model number before you buy, and register the product so the maker can reach you.

One line to act on: pick the capacity that matches how many people you cook for, prefer the maker that names the food-contact material, and run the model number through saferproducts.gov.

What to watch next

  • New air fryer entries in the CPSC recall database at saferproducts.gov
  • Whether any air fryer maker obtains a third-party certification for its coating claim rather than self-declaring
  • Whether state PFAS rules are clarified to cover small appliance food-contact parts

Questions readers ask

Have any air fryers been recalled?

Yes. Our search of the complete CPSC recall dataset on September 25, 2026 found six — Insignia in 2022 and 2024, Magic Chef in 2022, Cosori in 2023, Secura in 2023 and PowerXL in 2023 — covering about 3.16 million US units. Five of the six were for overheating.

What does a PFAS-free air fryer claim actually mean?

It is the maker’s own statement about its own product, not a third-party certification. The only external mark these appliances publish is an electrical one, such as the ETL Certified line on the Instant Vortex Plus, which says nothing about coatings. Makers that name the surface — glass, ceramic coating or PTFE — give you more to check.

Does the Minnesota PFAS law cover air fryers?

The published definition does not say. Minnesota’s prohibition took effect January 1, 2025 across 11 categories including cookware, described by the state agency as any product used to prepare, dispense, or store food, foodstuffs, or beverages. Air fryers are not named.

What size air fryer should I buy?

Six quarts is the size most models are engineered around and the one the qualifiers point at; Cosori states its 6-quart TurboBlaze serves three to five people. A 2-quart compact such as the Dash is a one-person appliance at 1000 W, against 1700 to 1800 W for the 6-quart machines.
