Google Trends top related queries for the seed stroller on October 12, 2026 are led by baby stroller, double stroller, car seat stroller and travel stroller, and the rising list for the same seed is headed by one named compact model. What almost nobody can do is check whether the price in front of them is normal, because the federal statistic that used to answer that is not being published.
We read the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index item list and the public CPI data files directly on October 12, 2026 rather than taking a figure from a summary, and we take the trade and duty figures from UN Comtrade and the published US tariff schedule. We quote no store prices here; the offer links carry the buying side.

No federal index prices a stroller, and the import heading is 95 percent China
The BLS consumer price index series for infants’ equipment has no published value after 2020, so no federal statistic prices a stroller in 2026. The trade record is sharper: China supplied about 95 percent of US imports under the tariff heading for baby carriages and parts in 2025, on United Nations Comtrade’s record of US Census Bureau data.

What price data still exists for baby gear
Search the BLS consumer price index item list for infant and baby items and four come back: infants and toddlers apparel, item code SEAF; baby food and formula, SEFT05; infants equipment, SSGE013; and infants furniture, SSHJ031. That list is a plain text file, and the data for each item sits in the CPI public data files beside it.
Two of the four are still running: infants’ and toddlers’ apparel and baby food and formula both have a value for August 2026. The other two stop. The infants’ equipment series begins with a December 2005 value of 100.0 and its last published observation is for 2020, at an annual average of 79.222 against that base. Infants’ furniture, which sits in the housing data file, ends in 2020 as well.
That leaves a specific blind spot. Formula pricing is visible and we covered it in baby formula prices, and diapering costs in diaper prices. The durable equipment a new parent spends the most on in one go has no current federal index at all.

The index that would price a stroller stopped in 2020; the ones still running cover clothes and food.
What neutral trade data says about stroller costs
With no index to read, the hardest public numbers in this category are trade numbers. United Nations Comtrade, which republishes the US Census Bureau’s merchandise trade statistics, records US imports under Harmonized System heading 8715, baby carriages including strollers and parts thereof, at 294.9 million dollars in 2025, of which 279.3 million dollars came from China. That is about 95 percent of the heading by value, against 96.9 percent in 2024 and 95.5 percent in 2023 on the same series. Those shares are our calculation from the published values. A category sourced that heavily from one country has no domestic substitute to switch to in a quarter.
The tariff line is public too. In Revision 21 of the 2026 Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States, heading 8715.00.00, baby carriages including strollers and parts thereof, carries a column 1 general rate of duty of 4.4 percent, free for a listed set of trade-agreement partners that does not include China. That 4.4 percent is the baseline before any additional duty, and it is set in a schedule rather than by a manufacturer.
One widely reported 2025 measurement came from outside the statistical system, and it needs labeling. On June 12, 2025, NBC News, carrying CNBC reporting, described an analysis by the minority arm of the congressional Joint Economic Committee which put prices across five baby gear categories, car seats, bassinets, strollers, high chairs and baby monitors, up 24 percent, or 98 dollars combined, between April 1 and June 9, 2025. That is a minority-staff analysis of marketplace listings rather than a federal statistic: it tracked the most popular Amazon listings in five Babylist categories through the price-checking sites Keepa and Camelcamelcamel. Its largest single move, 44.8 percent on one Graco infant car seat, drew a reply from Graco owner Newell Brands, whose spokesperson told CNBC the report appeared to have begun collecting data during a retail promotion.
What else sits inside a stroller price
Compliance is part of it. The rule at 16 CFR part 1227 requires every carriage and stroller to comply with ASTM F833-21, approved June 15, 2021, and as a children’s product each model needs a Children’s Product Certificate and third-party testing. That is a fixed cost per model and production run.
Bundling is the other half, and the part buyers can control. Car seat stroller sits third in the Google Trends top related list for this seed, and the joint between the two is usually an adapter sold as its own product. CPSC notice 26-568 of June 18, 2026 recalled about 3,840 car seat adapter sets because they could fail to attach properly and allow the car seat to fall, after one report of detachment.
The stroller recall record itself is modest. Notice 24-316 of July 25, 2024 covered about 3,045 twin strollers sold exclusively on Amazon from July 2018 through September 2023, recalled because the front seat in the forward-facing configuration posed an entrapment hazard, with CPSC citing multiple violations of the stroller regulations plus restraint and rear-seat-enclosure failures. Our piece on the car seat side impact standard covers the rule for the seat half of a travel system.
What a buyer can actually check in 2026
Three checks survive the data gap. First, the two live CPI series as context: infants’ and toddlers’ apparel stood at 121.640 in August 2026 against 125.861 in August 2025, a fall of 3.4 percent, while baby food and formula rose 1.28 percent over the same twelve months. Both percentages are our calculation from the index levels in the CPI data files. Neither is a stroller index, but neither shows another broad spike in baby goods during 2026.
Second, the standard edition: part 1227 names ASTM F833-21, and the edition a unit had to meet follows its manufacture date, which the tracking label lets you place. Third, the recall database, searched by brand and model, including the adapter if you are buying a travel system, and whether that adapter is included at all.
Our read is that 2026 shows no fresh measured spike in the public data, with the apparel index falling and food and formula up slightly. The caveat is the one this whole piece is built on: if the equipment index were still being published we would not have to infer that from a clothing series. Until it is, the honest answer to whether a stroller price is normal in 2026 is that no federal statistic can tell you.
With no equipment index, the checkable facts are the standard edition, the recall list and what the bundle includes.
What to watch next
- Whether BLS resumes publishing an infants equipment index, which would show up in the CPI item data files
- Whether the infants and toddlers apparel index keeps falling through the end of 2026
- Whether China’s share of the HS 8715 heading keeps easing in the Comtrade and Census trade data, as it did between 2024 and 2025

Questions readers ask
Is there a federal price index for strollers in 2026?
No current one. The BLS consumer price index item list includes an infants equipment item, code SSGE013, but its last published value in the CPI public data file is for 2020. The infants furniture item ends in 2020 as well.
Is there a measured figure for the 2025 rise in baby gear prices?
Only a non-federal one. NBC News reported on June 12, 2025 that an analysis by the minority arm of the congressional Joint Economic Committee put prices across car seats, bassinets, strollers, high chairs and baby monitors up 24 percent, or 98 dollars combined, between April 1 and June 9, 2025. It tracked popular Amazon listings in five Babylist categories through Keepa and Camelcamelcamel, so it is a minority-staff analysis of marketplace listings rather than a price index.
Why are strollers so exposed to import costs?
Because of where they come from. United Nations Comtrade, republishing US Census Bureau trade statistics, records about 95 percent of the 294.9 million dollars of US 2025 imports under Harmonized System heading 8715, baby carriages including strollers and parts, as coming from China. The column 1 general duty on that heading is 4.4 percent in the 2026 US schedule.
What do the baby-goods indexes that are still published show for 2026?
The CPI for infants and toddlers apparel was 121.640 in August 2026 against 125.861 in August 2025, a fall of 3.4 percent, and 3.9 percent below its January 2026 level. Baby food and formula rose 1.28 percent over the same twelve months.
